What are the requirements for certification?
The certifier should attest that the copy of the document being certified is a complete and true copy of the original. The doc needs to be signed and dated by the certifier, and they should print their name clearly underneath. It's important to also indicate their position/capacity, together with a contact address and telephone number.
Here's some suggested language they can use:
I, [full name], [role], hereby certify that this is a true copy of the original document.
Or you can use our reference letter template.
Professionals who can certify documents
These professionals are authorized to attest to the authenticity of your docs:
- A member of the judiciary or a senior civil servant
- A lawyer
- A notary public
- An accountant
- A director/manager of a regulated credit or financial institution
My documents aren't in English
The same professionals authorized to certify your documents can provide and certify a translation. If you don't have someone who can provide this for you, you can rely on a Certified Translation service provider – for reference, the service is known as Tradução Juramentada in Brazil.
